Volunteers are there to step in when a family member needs a break, and are there for the family and friends after their loved one has passed away. No matter what your skills, talents or motivation, we have the opportunity for you to help. What does it take to be a Kindred Hospice Volunteer? Care and concern for others. Tolerance, flexibility, patience. Maturity, self- understanding. Good communication skills. Confidentiality. Empathy, sincerity, sensitivity. Dependability. Acceptance of moral and cultural differences. Ability to work cooperatively with others. Ability to accept supervision and evaluation. Be at least 1. 6- years- old. Complete comprehensive hospice volunteer training. Annual TB testing. Submit to and pass a criminal background screening. Submit to and pass a drug screening. There are no restrictions in regard to race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, handicap or national origin. Volunteers receive training appropriate to their respective volunteer position. Orientation and trainings are scheduled to fit your busy schedule. Kindred Hospice cares for patients all over the local area. Volunteers can choose where, when and how they give their time! Administrative Volunteers: Provide administrative/clerical support including filing, answering phones, mailings, etc. Some tasks can be done from your home. Bereavement Volunteers: Provide bereavement support to families through supportive phone calls, mailings and visits. Patient Visitor Volunteers. Make friendly visits to hospice patients in their homes or long- term health care facilities, and provide companionship and support to the patient and their families. Pet Therapy Volunteers: Make supportive visits to patients with their registered therapy dogs. The pet therapy volunteer team must be registered or be willing to become registered through an organization such at Therapy Dog, Inc., Therapy Dog International, etc. We can help you with the process of getting registered. Tuck- In Volunteers: Make weekly telephone calls to check on patients/families to assess their needs. These calls can be made from your home. Other Specialty and Professional Volunteers: Volunteers who want to provide specific support including music, vigil, art/crafts, life review video, spiritual support, handyman, etc. Also, those who want to share professional skills such as art and music therapists, beauticians and barbers and other professional services (volunteers must be certified, licensed or registered in the professional specialty). Note: Volunteers may serve in more than one role provided they complete the necessary training.
